District 8 PinWashington District 8 Little League® serves the north Seattle area from the ship canal north to the King/Snohomish county line and from Puget Sound east to lake Washington and through Woodinville.  If you are looking for a place for you or your child to play baseball or softball, please check out our interactive boundary map to find the correct league, or you can contact us to find out which league you reside in.  Boys and girls of ages 5 to 18 participate in competitive and non-competitive baseball and softball leagues in each of our 14 leagues.

District 8 also offers children the option to play in the Little League® Challenger division.  The Challenger division is a separate program within Little League® that provides children with mental or physical disabilities a place to enjoy the game of baseball.  This program is open to children ages 5 to 18, or the completion of High School.  Please contact us for information regarding the Challenger division.

District 8 Washington Little League® is also served by our District 8 Umpires & Seniors website.  Here you will find many resources including Umpire Resources, Game Schedules and much more.

The Big League Baseball Division is for boys and girls ages 16-18, chartered by District 8 Washington Little League as opposed to other levels of play in the district.  Because of this, District 8 Washington selects one all-star team to represent District 8 advancing directly to the Washington State Big League All-Star Tournament each year.  Eligible participants to be selected for the District 8 Washington Big Legaue All-Star team are any participants age 16-18 that play on a regular season Senior or Big League team.  The culmination of the International Tournament is the Big League Baseball World Series, featuring teams from around the globe. All expenses for the teams advancing to the World Series (travel, meals and housing) are paid by Little League Baseball.

For the 2010 Season, all registrations will be handled by District 8 Washington.  Please fill out this form if you are interested in Big League for the 2010 season so that we can proerly identify the leagues and teams that need to be created.

How Can Coaches and Parents Improve Youth Sports?

In answering this question, sport psychologists Frank Smoll and Ronald Smith conducted over 25 years of research at the University of Washington. Drs. Smoll and Smith are the co-directors of a project known as Youth Enrichment in Sports (YESports). The objective of the project was to develop, evaluate, and deliver child-centered educational programs that benefit young athletes. Supported by grants from the National Institute of Mental Health and the William T. Grant Foundation, Smoll’s and Smith’s approach illustrates what is called “evidence-based practice” in the field of medicine. At every stage of the process, scientific research played a key role in developing YESports programs.

YESports training programs are designed to help coaches and parents create a mastery climate that promotes healthy achievement in all areas of life, including sports. A mastery orientation emphasizes skill development, maximum effort, and fun; and it occurs within an encouraging and supportive interpersonal environment.
